SSP Introduction
Written by Dave Bold
99.9 percent of schools across the country are now part of a School Sports Partnership. Many of the larger London boroughs have more than one: Croydon has three partnerships. But it's not just about improving and increasing school sport; improvements in pupil concentration, commitment and self-esteem as well as fitness levels, talent identification, social cohesion and competition all have a part to play... click Read More to discover what the offer and how the Partnerships are organised.

Meet the Team

Welcome to the Partnership team of staff.  Who are we and what do we do?

The project is led by the Partnership Development Manager (PDM) whose role is to set the strategy of the partnership and manage all it's resources.

SSCos are School Sports Co-ordinators. It's their job to support and assist their 'family' of schools (a local cluster of schools that could be primary, infant, special and/or PRUs) develop the roles of their Primary Link Teachers within their family schools.

PESSCL/PESSYP Data
Written by Dave Bold

The Physical Education and School Club Links (PESSCL) programme is a key part of what School Sports Partnerships are all about. All Partnerships undertake a survey during May-July each year to assess their progress and identity what improvements need to be made. One of the main elements of the survey assesses the number of children in each school managing to achieve to 2 hours of high quality PE and school sport per week.

2008 - 2009 marks the transition from PESSCL to PESSYP –  a new strategy, with new work strands and more hours to tackle, but the objectives remain the same.  More on this new strategy is given below.

In line with many other Partnerships across the country the St Andrews Partnership has seen year on year increases in the numbers school children taking up their 2 hours a week entitlement of PE and Sport:

2004-2005 - 53%

2005-2006 - 65%

2006-2007 - 78%

2007-2008 - 90%

Currently 90% of the Partnership's young people are accessing 2 hours a week PE and School Sport. This is also currently the national average and many of the Partnership schools achieved Sportsmark (Secondary) or Activemark (Primary) status as part of this achievement.
