General Information

Teachers attending TOPs courses will receive a set of resource cards and a TOP handbook for the specific area of the PE curriculum covered by the course. All TOPs resource cards refer to the national curriculum for PE and are cross-referenced with the 4 strands. They also contain ideas to help teachers with knowledge and understanding of fitness and health including young disabled pupils.

TOP Play

The TOP Play course is designed specifically for teachers of KS1. Although KS2 teachers will also find the resources cards useful as they are designed for children 5 - 9 years. The course gives teachers the opportunity to develop practical ideas based around the activities on the resource cards. These linked activities can be used in the adaptation of small-sided games.

TOP Games

This course replaces the previous TOP Sport course and is designed for teachers of KS2. The resource cards are generic. Al three packs of invasion, net/wall and striking and fielding are included in the delegate resource. The course enables teachers to give pupils an introduction to the skills needed for games in each of these categories.

TOP Gymnastics

The TOP Gymnastics course is designed for teachers of KS1 and KS2. The course covers the teaching of basic skills and how these can be developed into sequence work. Teachers will advise on safety, adapting skills and the use of apparatus. There is an integrated approach to the inclusion of pupils. The resource cards and training provide advice so that teachers can ensure young people are challenged to achieve their full potential, whatever that might be.

TOP Dance

The TOP Dance course is designed to enable teachers to gain confidence in introducing dance activities in the PE curriculum. This is done through the introduction of a variety of thematic based activities linked t o the resource cards and music CD. The cards provide a range of starting points for dance and introduce a range of movement vocabulary and dance skills.

TOP Athletics

TOP Athletics is designed for used with primary age pupils. The target age is 7 - 11 years but some activities have been designed for younger pupils. The course offers teachers useful ideas on how to develop the skills of running, walking, jumping, and throwing to help pupils to make progress.

TOP Outdoors

TOP Outdoors is designed for use with KS2 pupils and covers skills under the broad heading of outdoor and adventurous activities. The resource cards are divided into the four areas of trails, physical challenges and orienteering. The activities are suitable for use with the whole class on a school site.

TOP Sportability

TOP Sportability creates opportunities for young people with disabilities to enjoy, participate and perform in PE. This is done through a series of inclusive equipment sets and resource cards.
